The brief

A music documentary series made with Sennheiser, following the band Velvet Bloom. A series rather than a single film, which changes how you shoot it: every episode has to stand alone and still make the next one worth watching.

What we did

We filmed the band both ways. Live in a small red-lit room, close in on the performance, and then around a candlelit table afterwards talking about how it works, with Maddy Herbert on lead vocals and Alex Marko on guitar and production.

Why a series, not a film

A single film gets watched once and then it's done. A series gives the brand something to keep publishing and an audience a reason to come back, which changes how much you hold back in each episode. It also changes the shooting: you need enough range across one night to cut several different pieces out of it.
