The NSW Premier's Prizes for Science and Engineering, held at Government House in Sydney. A formal run sheet, a heritage venue with rules about where a crew can stand, and moments that happen exactly once.
We covered the garden reception at dusk and the ceremony in the ballroom, with interviews on the night with the Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong, Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, and Professor Nalini Joshi AO, the NSW Scientist of the Year.
Government House sets the terms. Nothing gets moved, positions are agreed in advance, and awards happen once with no reset. So the planning matters more than the kit. On a formal evening the only acceptable outcome is that the room never notices you were there.
