Mum's Sauce is a Coles product that supports the Curing Homesickness Foundation, which brings home-cooked food to children in hospital. A film about a jar would have missed the point. The story is the ward.
We filmed a cook-along run at a children's hospital, with Coles Development Chef Michael Weldon cooking alongside the young patients taking part. Around it, an interview with the Foundation, and with hospital staff. Filming in a ward means working fast, quietly, and around the people there rather than to a shot list.
You could shoot the jar beautifully and say nothing. What makes the product make sense is the ward it pays for, so that's where the film lives. Working around unwell children means going at their pace, not the shot list's, and being ready to stop. It's slower than a normal shoot and it should be.
