Why recruitment video works

Good people read your careers page before they apply. A wall of text tells them nothing about the room they'd be walking into. A short film does.

The evidence backs it up. Recruiters say video lifts both the number of candidates and the quality of them, and video gets shared far more than text on the same job. So one film works harder across every place you post a role. If you're building the wider picture rather than filling a role, see our employer brand video work.

Types of recruitment video we make

Different roles need different films. We'll help you pick the right one, or run a small suite off a single shoot day.

Culture film

The hero piece for your careers page. Real people, real spaces, the feel of the place in 60 to 90 seconds.

Employee testimonial

Your own staff on why they stay. Honest, unscripted, the proof candidates trust most.

Day in the life

A single role followed through a real day. It answers the question every applicant is actually asking.

Virtual office tour

A walk through your space so candidates know where they'd sit before they set foot in it.

Job specific role video

A short cut for a hard to fill role, ready to drop straight into the ad.

Careers page hero

The film that leads your careers landing page and sets the tone the moment someone lands.

How we work

How a job runs, step by step.

Five stages, all handled. You brief us once and give your feedback. We run the rest.

01 Your part

Brief

Tell us the goal, the audience and the deadline once. Jess turns it into a scope, a plan and a fixed quote, so you know what you are getting before anything is locked in.

  • One clear brief, no back and forth
  • A fixed quote up front, itemised
  • One point of contact, start to finish

A careers film we made in Sydney

For the Australian Turf Club, made with Bisley Workwear, we filmed the people who get Royal Randwick ready. Matthew Bassett on the grounds crew, Nigola Barrow coordinating events, Isaac Nanai on stable maintenance. Not actors reading lines about culture. The actual crew, named, in the workwear they turn up in.

We filmed across the operation in the spaces they work in: track preparation before dawn, irrigation and mowing, stable rounds, hospitality setup, then race day with the crowd in. The staff talk about the work and the film does the rest. See the film.

We've also filmed for PwC, Bunnings, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and Sennheiser, so people are comfortable putting their own staff in front of our camera.

How a careers film comes together

Everyone asks the same first question. What actually happens? Here it is, brief to final files.

  1. 01

    A short brief call

What roles you're hiring into, who's worth putting on camera, and what a candidate needs to believe before they apply. Half an hour is usually enough.

  2. 02

A run sheet built around your day

We schedule around your people, not the other way around. Each person gets a twenty to thirty minute window, so nobody loses a morning.

  3. 03

    One shoot day on site

One crew, filming in your spaces. We light a room, mic each person and film the interviews while everyone's fresh, then cover the work itself across the floor or the site.

  4. 04

    The edit

We cut the hero film for your careers page first, then build the short versions for job ads off the same day's footage.

  5. 05

    Two rounds of review

You watch it in Frame.io and leave comments straight on the timeline. We make the changes, then send the final files.

Where you'll use it

One shoot, cut for every place a candidate meets you.

  • Your careers page, as the hero film.
  • SEEK, LinkedIn and job ads, as short role specific cuts.
  • LinkedIn and YouTube, for reach beyond active job seekers.
  • Career fairs and campus days, on the stand.
  • Onboarding, so new starters feel it before day one.

What we need before the shoot day

Not much, and we'll walk you through it on the brief call. Having these five ready is the difference between a smooth day and a slow one.

  • A shortlist of people, plus a spare or two in case someone's away on the day.
  • Access to the spaces you want on camera, including anywhere that needs a permit or a site induction.
  • One quiet room for the interviews. It doesn't need to be pretty, we bring the lighting.
  • Your logo files and brand colours, so the finish matches everything else you put out.
  • The date it needs to be live. We work back from that.

Behind the scenes

We make the hard part look easy.

Getting a real answer out of someone who's nervous

Most of your staff have never been filmed. Ten minutes in they relax, and that's when the good line comes. So we don't rush the first take and we don't film people in front of an audience.

Oscar came up through live broadcast news at Network Ten, where an interview gets one go and there's no second chance. That's the skill we bring to a careers film. Ask the question, ask it again in different words, then wait. The second answer is the honest one, and it's the one that ends up in the cut.

We don't hand your people a line to read. It never sounds like them, and a candidate hears it straight away.

Why Zarco Creative for recruitment video

We film your real staff, never actors. That's the whole point, and it's what candidates can smell a fake from a mile off. Our crew came up through live broadcast news at Network Ten, so we're calm on set, we settle nervous people fast, and we get a real answer out of someone in one take. We're set up for multi site and interstate shoots, so a national employer gets one crew and one look across the lot. See how it sits alongside our corporate video production.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

What is a recruitment video and how does it help us hire?

It's a short film that shows candidates what it's really like to work with you. Real people, real spaces, real days. Recruiters say video lifts both how many people apply and how good they are. It does the talking a job ad can't.

How much does a recruitment video cost in Sydney?

It depends on the number of films, the number of sites and days, and how many cuts you need for different roles. A single culture film is very different to a full careers suite across offices. Tell us the roles and the sites and we'll come back with a fixed quote. Get in touch.

How long should a recruitment video be?

Your careers page hero usually lands between 60 and 90 seconds. Role specific cuts for SEEK and LinkedIn are shorter, often 15 to 30 seconds. We cut the long film and the short versions from the one shoot.

Do you use real employees or actors?

Real employees, always. That's the whole point of a recruitment video. Candidates trust your own people, and they can tell when something's staged. Our job is to get honest, warm answers out of them, and years of live news experience means we do that fast.

How long does it take to produce a recruitment video?

Most jobs run a few weeks from brief to final files. Filming is usually a single day, then we edit with two rounds of review built in. If you're up against a hiring deadline, tell us the date and we'll plan back from it.

Can you film across multiple Sydney sites or interstate locations?

Yes. We're based in Sydney and film across the CBD, North Sydney, Macquarie Park, Parramatta, the Inner West and greater NSW, plus interstate for national employers. You get one experienced crew and one consistent look across every site.

How do we make a careers film? What's the process?

A short brief call, then we build a run sheet around your day. One shoot day on site with one crew, filming interviews first and the work itself after. Then the edit, two rounds of review in Frame.io, and final files. Most jobs run a few weeks end to end, and the only day your team gives up is the shoot day.

How many staff should we film?

Four to six voices is the sweet spot for a hero film. Enough that it feels like a real place, few enough that everyone gets proper time on camera. We'll film more if you're covering several teams, sites or shifts, and we'll tell you if the list is getting too long for one day.

How long does each person need to be on camera?

Twenty to thirty minutes each, including the few minutes it takes to settle in. We build the run sheet around your roster so people come down, do their bit and get back to work.

Do you film in our offices or in a studio?

Your spaces, nearly always. Candidates want to see the room they'd actually be walking into, and a real workplace does that better than a studio backdrop. We bring the lighting and the sound, so an ordinary meeting room works fine. A studio is there if you'd rather, and sometimes it's the right call for shift workers.

What if our staff are nervous on camera?

Most of them will be, and that's normal. We keep the room small, we don't rush the first take, and we ask the same question a second way once someone's warmed up. That second answer is usually the honest one. Nobody has to remember lines, because there are no lines.

Do you write what our staff say?

No. We ask the questions and your people answer in their own words. That's the whole point. Scripted staff sound scripted, and a candidate can pick it in the first five seconds.

Do we get vertical cuts for SEEK and LinkedIn?

Yes, cut from the same shoot day. The hero film sits on your careers page and the short vertical versions go on job ads and social, so one day on site feeds every place a candidate meets you.

Can we update the film when the roles change?

Yes, and a re-edit off footage we already have is a far smaller job than filming again. Tell us what's changed and we'll quote the cut. If you want the raw footage itself, we can hand it over on a drive, quoted with the job.

Where we film

Across Sydney and greater NSW.

Based in Sydney, filming across the CBD, North Sydney, Macquarie Park, Parramatta, the Inner West and beyond. We travel across NSW and interstate for the right job.
